Well this is new...

Well what can I say... Qatar Animal Welfare Society is now officially a blogger! Having never done this before, I apologise now for any ramblings, deviations from the subject and emotional outbursts!
The one thing that continues to amaze me about the shelter is the amount of "magic space" that we seem to have. It doesn't matter how many animals we have in, we always manage to squeeze another emergency case in. Or in todays case... 16 emergency cases....
Where do we fit them?
Well a major re-shuffle and doubling up a couple of the younger dogs managed to free up one kennel in rescue dogs to house 4 pups (about 16 weeks old) that have been living on some waste ground quite happily for the last few weeks whilst we tried to find a foster home for them. Unfortunately some people decided all of a sudden that they didn't want them there anymore and they had to come in - pronto - before anything happened to them.
3 more new residents came in the form of 3 week old kittens. Luckily for us we had a new mum cat whose kittens didn't survive and she has taken to the role of foster mum like a duck to water! Unlike our ducks who were NOT amused at the rain we had this week... But that's another story.
We then had a phone call about a labrador-mix who so considerately had her puppies under a pile of rocks at the Golf Course and then left. This meant a very early start to rescue what we were told was a couple of pups, and in fact turned out to be 8 very young puppies who are about 10 days old. Dodging golf balls, crawling under rocks and laying in an ant's nest is not my idea of fun first thing in the morning. They are now living in the corridor of our cat cabin in a play pen. Not ideal but at least they're safe.
And number 16 was a suprise... "Tee" as he is now called is a very young starling who was found on the golf course by some golfers whilst we were there rescuing the pups! Oh well... What's one more?
This now takes the total up to 57 dogs & puppies, 61 cats & kittens, 1 bull, 1 donkey, 1 possum, 1 kestrel, 1 starling and a whole bunch of chickens, ducks, guinea fowl and geese.
Now we definitely can't take anymore. Until tomorrow maybe.
